Cascara sagrada, or also known by the scientific name Rhammus purshiana, is the extract obtained from the bark of a deciduous tree belonging to the family Rhamnaceae. This tree has its origin in the coniferous forests of the American Northwest and Canada, although it is also cultivated in some regions of Central Africa. The bark of the cascara sagrada has beneficial medicinal properties for our body among which we highlight: hepatoprotective, mild purgative, mild laxative and also as a bitter tonic.
