This essential oil is extracted from the leaves of Gaultheria fragrantissima, a shrub typical of the mountainous areas of Nepal. Its main chemical constituent is methyl salicylate. This is a rare organic chemical compound with strong calming and renewing properties. It belongs to the ester group. It is used topically to reduce the appearance of blemishes and to provide a soothing sensation and warmth to the muscles. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory and analgesic.
It is especially recommended for sportsmen and women. It relieves the effects of stiffness, tendonitis and other joint and muscle pain. Not for oral use.
