Argan (Argania spinosa) is a thorny tree native to the southwestern regions of Morocco, where it is only cultivated. The fruit is green in colour and resembles a giant olive, with a sweet smell, whose interior contains a very hard nut with small seeds rich in oil. The extraction of Argan oil is long and arduous. It can be considered a "bio-ecological" product because of the artisanal way of obtaining the seeds from which the precious oil is extracted. It is particularly rich in polyunsaturated and monounsaturated acids (omega 3, omega 6 and omega 9) containing up to 80% of essential fatty acids (linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, oleic acid, arachidonic acid, gamma-linolenic acid), and it also contains large amounts of Vitamin E.
