pH is important when formulating body hygiene cosmetics. In the vaginal and vulvar area, a healthy pH range in women of childbearing age is remarkably acidic (between 3.8 and 4.5), thanks to the presence of lactic acid produced by the genus Lactobacillus bacteria.
