Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a Mediterranean herb used by humans since ancient times as a remedy for several ailments. It is listed in the European Pharmacopoeia and its leaves have antibacterial, digestive and tonic properties. In dietary supplements for perimenopause and menopause, it is often included as an ingredient to alleviate hot flashes and excessive sweat. It is also known for its emmenagogue properties (helps to regulate menstruation). It also contains polyphenols that provide anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

Sage extract is an ingredient found in a wide variety of food supplements (infusions or tablets) or antiseptic topical solutions. Remember to avoid taking it internally during pregnancy and breastfeeding, its essential oil is potentially toxic. It is important to always strictly follow the instructions and dosage indicated by the manufacturer. When in doubt, consult a healthcare professional.
