Type A proanthocyanidins work to prevent colonizing bacteria from sticking to the walls of the bladder. Proanthocyanidins prevent the bacteria from sticking to the body and causing infection.

Blackcurrant fruits, in addition to flavonoids, contain anthocyanins, phenolic acids, organic acids, vitamin C and mineral salts.
