L-glutamine is a non-essential amino acid that is very abundant in the muscles. Although our body can synthesise it, taking it as a dietary supplement can be beneficial in certain situations.

Glutamine serves as an energy source for the immune system and the intestinal mucosa cells. It is involved in the synthesis of other amino acids and the formation of urea.

This amino acid is good support for intense physical exercise. It promotes protein and glycogen synthesis, as well as water retention. It contributes to the recovery and maintenance of muscle mass. In this athletic context, glutamine requirements are greater than its synthesis capacity. It can also provide support in the event of excessive permeability of the intestinal barrier. In any case, it is advisable to seek guidance from a healthcare professional regarding the type of supplement, the dosage and the duration of use.

Glutamine supplementation is not recommended for people with liver or kidney conditions, as well as when following certain drug treatments. When in doubt, consult your healthcare professional.
