Litothamnion is rich in calcium and is a source of magnesium. These two nutrients, known as alkalizing minerals, play a positive role in acid-base balance.

This balance can be measured with urinary pH, using pH paper, for example. Under normal physiological conditions, urinary pH is between 6.5 and 7.5. A slightly alkaline diet is recommended for better overall health.
